The Contribution to the Society award recognises Dato' Dr. Nellie Tan who have made a profound difference to the lives of many woman entrepreneurs and executives. 

YBhg. Dato' Dr. Nellie S. L. Tan-Wong has pioneered the cause of Women in Education as Co-Founder, the Women's Institute of Management. 

The Women's Institute of Education is extremely active in promoting learning among women executives and building the managerial careers of women executives. 

Despite being a practicing Chartered Accountant and Managing Director of several companies, she is committed to voluntary work aimed at improving the lives of others. 

She strongly believes that human resource is the best asset of any organisation. Her life has been focused on leadership by example and continuing professional training. 

She has written books and handbooks for the organisations where she held leadership positions e.g. Board Member, Women's World Banking, New York, Finance Chairman, World YWCA, Geneva and National Vice Chairman Malaysian Red Crescent Society and the President of the N.S. Chinese Maternity Hospital, Seremban
