Contribution to Society
2010

This “Contribution to Society” Award recognises the outstanding contribution and commitment of Tan Sri G. Gnanalingam towards people development in Malaysia.

Tan Sri was educated in the Royal Military College. He is a graduate of the University of Malaya and Harvard Business School. His meteoric rise from a Sales Representative to a Marketing Director within 10 years in British American Tobacco group is a trail blazing one. His marketing company, G-team Consultants handling the commercial operations of RTM, the national television station grew the revenues from RM 55million to RM 360million. In 1994, he started Westports from a barren, swampy island into a RM 1billion enterprise. Westports today is one of the top 5 terminals in the world achieved by 100% Malaysian staff.

His success throughout his life can be attributed to his belief that people can raise their level of performance if only they are given the right opportunity, coaching and support. The commitment to serve society overriding personal interest has been the hall mark of this outstanding humanitarian.

He has been rewarded for his efforts as the Transport Man of the Year in 2001, the Malaysia Tatler 18 Years at The Top Award in 2007, followed by the SME Platinum Award, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia Achiever of the Year Award. He was elected a Chartered Fellow by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, United Kingdom. He was also presented the Outstanding American Alumnus Award 2007 in the field of Logistics and Transport by the American Universities Alumni of Malaysia for achieving outstanding entrepreneurial skills and leadership excellence in different industries.

The Asia HRD Congress 2010 International Awards Committee is delighted to honour Tan Sri Gnanalingam for his outstanding contribution to society.
