Contribution to Society
The “Contribution to Society” award recognises the work of the Shiv Nadar Foundation; and its President and Founder Shiv Nadar in creating a more equitable, meritocracy based society by empowering individuals to bridge the socio-economic divide.

At a time when India had a total of 250 computers, Shiv Nadar founded HCL with a young team of eight which has resulted in a $6.2-billion global enterprise with over 90,000 professionals from diverse nationalities, who operate from 31 countries, including over 500 points of presence in India.

With a desire to give back to the society, the Shiv Nadar Foundation was founded in 1994 to support the cause of education in India. The Foundation empowers individuals to to create socio-economic change through the power of transformational education.

He has received global recognition not just for his contribution to trade & industry in India and the world, but also for his deep commitment to public good. He has won several accolades for his pioneering role in business and philanthropy. Forbes Magazine featured Shiv Nadar in its list of 48 Heroes of Philanthropy in the Asia Pacific region in 2011.

Shiv Nadar was conferred the Padma Bhushan - the third highest civilian honour, awarded by the President of India.
