The ‘Contribution to Society’ award recognises YBhg Tan Sri Sidek Hassan’s commitment to spearhead transformation projects that are of vital importance for nation building. 

Starting his career in the Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1974 as an Assistant Director at the International Trade Division, Ministry of Trade and Industry, YBhg Tan Sri with focus and dedication to nation building, grew in the Civil Service. He served within the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and held various crucial positions; Deputy Secretary-General (Trade) and then as the Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry on 2004. 

On September 2006, YBhg Tan Sri Sidek was appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, and was in office until 2012. During his entire working life, he has committed himself to public service, demonstrating humility and a firm commitment to improving service to the nation’s citizens. His sheer pursuit of excellence has ensured the continuing improvement of processes and systems enabling people development. 

YBhg Tan Sri Sidek who holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) degree in Public Administration from the University of Malaya and MBA from New Hampshire College, United States of America was the first Chairman of MRT Corporation. 

He has also served as President of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and currently serves as the Chairman of PETRONAS, a position he assumed on 2012. 

The Asia HRD Awards Committee is honoured to bestow upon YBhg Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, the Contribution to Society Award 2014 for his contribution towards nation building.
