Lifetime Achievement

The ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award recognizes Dr Arifin M. Siregar for a lifetime of public service and for the initiatives he has introduced that have impacted the entire Indonesian community. 

Dr Arifin has devoted himself to selflessly serving Indonesia in all aspects – from education, economics, banking, diplomacy and foreign relations to government and business. He started his career in 1960 as a Researcher at Munster University, Germany, before working with the United Nations in New York as an Economist. He later moved to the International Monetary Fund in Washington D.C. as its Representative while concurrently Financial Advisor to the Government of Laos. 

In 1983, Dr Arifin was named Governor of Central Bank of Indonesia. Following this, he was appointed in 1988 by the President of Indonesia to serve as Minister of Trade. In 1993, he was asked to serve as Ambassador of Indonesia to the United States of America for six years. 

Upon retirement from public service, Dr Arifin has been involved with work in the private sector and banking, serving as Chairman of Boards of leading MNCs both in Indonesia and abroad. He is currently Advisor to Procter & Gamble Indonesia. 

A highly influential economist, Dr Arifin remains active today sharing his expertise and professional advice for business growth across the region.
