Former Chairman of the Presidency & Prime Minister, Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Lifetime Achievement
2014

The ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award recognises H.E. Dr Haris Silajdzic for his lifetime work in promoting harmony and goodwill despite difficult political circumstances.

He entered the international political arena following an agreement between leaders of Serbia and Croatia, two republics in former Yugoslavia, to divide Bosnia and Herzegovina. The implementation of this agreement was marked by military aggression resulting in civilian casualties, ethnic cleansing and suffering of epic proportions unseen in Europe after the Second World War. H.E. Dr Haris Silajdzic served during the wartime first as the Foreign Minister and then as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was a member of the State delegation at the Peace negotiations in Dayton, Ohio headed by the late President Alija Izetbegovic. In 2006 he was elected member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for a four year term.

H.E. Dr Haris Silajdzic has always endeavoured to present the political and humanitarian aspects of the situation in his country to the outside world. His persuasive, articulate and forceful advocacy seeking peace and aspiration to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population has won him the support of all peace loving people. In his diplomatic and political actions he did not only strive to save the lives, sovereignty and territorial integrity of his country, but devoted his energy to rebuild the foundations of the Bosnian historic multiculturalism. As in his entire life, H.E. Dr Haris Silajdzic remains devoted to this goal globally.

His commitment to advancing political, democratic and confessional pluralism i.e. a firm belief deep rooted in the idea that people can and should live together harmoniously and peacefully, despite differences in race, religion, culture and politics is reflected in his lifetime work.

The Asia HRD Awards Committee is honoured to bestow upon H.E. Dr Haris Silajdzic, the Lifetime Achievement Award 2014 for his work in nurturing and championing peace among people.
