Contribution to HR Community

This “Contribution to HR Community” Award recognises Mr Ong Teong Wan’s contribution in areas of Human Capital Development.

He was founder member and second President of the Singapore Training and Development Association (STADA) which was formed with the purpose of sharing HRD practices learnt from MNC’s to other local practitioners. While there he chaired the Professional Development Advisory Group comprising training managers from Union Carbide, Shell, Esso, SMRT and PSA and developed a unified system of trainer training, integrating process and content.

Mr Ong Teong Wan joined National Semiconductor (SEA) in 1972 whereupon he and his training team were tasked to increase productivity from 60% to 80%, which they more than achieved. They replicated and transferred the effective production training methods learned in Singapore to other training managers in company plants in Malacca, Penang, Bangkok and Bandoeng.

He has written many articles on training for productivity and paying for performance which can be accessed at his website: www. He has crystallised all his learning in HRM and HRD from his consulting practice into a book entitled: Results Management – Effective People Management to Achieve Excellent Results published by John Wiley & Sons (Asia) Pte Ltd 2010. The book has been translated into Bahasa Indonesia and it places emphasis on productivity through performance measurement and management as well as compensation and talent management.

The Asia HRD Congress 2010 International Awards Committee is delighted to honour Mr Ong Teong Wan for his contribution to the HR community.
